Following a heavy night's drinking, I wearily made my way over to the Frog And Fiddle on friday evening, with the hope of staying awake long enough to hear at least a sound check before falling asleep on the bar. My hope was met with a night of instant musical pick-me-ups and positive energy from the eclectic line up. Coxon's Riot kick started the proceedings with their blend of ska pop, followed hot on the heels by the electric folk of Sweet Plums, creating a warm buzz of excitment and wonder on that chilly friday night. By the time local heroes Skankt took to the stage with their up tempo power ska-rock, there was definatly no need for any kind of energy drink; the party had just started! This musical sugar rush peaked perfectly with the arrival of headliners The David Goo Variety Band. With a set soaked in funky rhythms and catchy melodies, David Goo's energetic and hilarious performance culminated in a fizzy festival atmosphere, with not a frown in sight. The small barn like gig room at the back of the Frog And Fiddle, on Cheltenham's high street, definatly had that friday feeling pulsing through its wooden beams that night, proving that Red Bull may give you wings, but David Goo provides the take off!!
