Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun, Elliot Mason Theo Altieri and Ryan Martin @ Slak - Friday 4th December

As 2009's dazzling climax fast approaches, and the people of Cheltenham busy themselves with gathering wood and gifts for the holiday season, its good to know that there is a night where one can come and relax from all the stress. Slak once again housed a fine selection of local artists, all shaking off the stress of Christmas from the bedraggled town's folk. Ryan Martin began the night with a brief acoustic set, setting a mellow yet gentle tone, robbing the room of the cold that had somehow drifted in from the street. Any stress that still existed by this point was quickly forgotten when 12 year old Theo Altieri held the stage, with his enchanting acoustic indie sensibility played on guitar, which also acted as a drum, giving depth to his set. Elliot Mason then preceded to attack any remaining stress with his smile inducing set of catchy folk -pop tracks, shifting styles and accents throughout making the songs even more enjoyable. By the end of the night, the now strong audience were fully relaxed and unified in admiration for what they had heard, and were treated still by Bright Eyes-esque Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun, who sent everyone off settled with their alt - folk pop gems. So, when the town was once again buzzing with frustrated shoppers on the Saturday, those in attendance the previous night where happy in the knowledge that they had already recieved the perfect gift.........
