Coldplay: Prospekt's March EP

Coldplay - Prospekts March EP
By Ben Hawling

On the release of last summers effort, ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’, fans of Coldplay relished in the musical direction and evolution that the band had made since the days of ‘Parachutes’. The fans were then treated to further new material in November’s release, ‘Prospekts March’; an 8 track EP showcasing a selection of remixed and unreleased potential album tracks. The mesmerising opener, ‘Life In Technicolor ii’ hits the listener like a burst of sun light through the clouds. Unlike the original album track, this version includes inspiring lyrics from Chris Martin describing a release from normality, “Gravity release me, and don’t ever hold me down, now my feet won’t touch the ground”, which reacts with the rising melody to create that exact feeling. Other familiar tracks here include a dire and unnecessary remix of ‘Lovers In Japan’, and ‘Lost +’, the album track featuring a rap from Jay Z in the middle, which highlights the bands shard interest in hip hop. Unfortunately, the rap is very weak and again the track would have been better left alone. However, aside from these the reminding tracks all offer intelligent dreamy, yet thought provoking melodies and lyrics, much like with Coldplays previous work.
