After a three week hiatus, The Cheltenham Underground on friday provided another night of fresh and sparkling local talent. While the mid-autumn fireworks were popping in the darkness outside, inside Slaks, fireworks of a different kind were fireing up. The Coronettes were first out of the box with a fine and diverse collection of acoustic covers, including a delicate rendition of 'Enter Sandman' and a chilled 'You Spin Me Right Round' alltogether leading the ever growing audience into a dazzingly comfortable state. Be sure to catch them in and around Cheltenham at a number of venues in the near future! Next up were The Cadbury Sisters who gelled sweet harmonies to create sensual and shining acoustic tracks, as well as their own glittering take on Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'. Then, the dark autumn atmosphere creeped in as Connelly took to the stage. The Cheltenham born singer songwriter, with a hint of Jeff Buckley and Elliot Smith, played an extended set of tender yet melancholic ballads that brought an air of reflection to the proceedings. Then a catherine wheel was set off in the form of the Imogen Heapesque Natalie Ross, who lit up the room through her use of vocorders and keyboards, building dual harmonies and vocal tracks enhancing her own accoustic work. At this point, the evening of illuminations ceased and the awestruck crowd wandered into the dark night in search of fireworks of a more generic nature............
