Pay day! Not only does it bring vast amounts of well earned cash, but also well earned good times. This effect could be seen in action all over Saturday night; from the bars to the clubs, there were smiles and empty pint glasses all around.
This atmosphere was most prominent in The Frog and Fiddle, where a large crowd was defiantly paid in full with the gift of fantastic bands.
First up were local band Stressechoes, blending two part harmonies with finely crafted acoustic folk, easing money out of pockets and drawing Saturday nighters inside to the pubs vast Barn venue. The now growing audience encouraged the band to bring their set to a close with a sublime cover of Fleet Foxes' 'White Winter Hymnal', drenching everyone in a glowing haze.
The Drawing of the Three, with their progressive indie rock kept the room humming as the venue continued to fill, and many a coin was spent. The band's set started off relatively stable, but gently rose to fill the air with frantic energy leaving the crowd wanting more.
This anticipation was swiftly quelled upon the arrival of the night’s headliners, Hip Route. From the start of their set, the Swindon based band set the mood through their funk laden blues, with a side order of soul, which managed to brush away all worries and chill the collective.
So, as the last coin dropped, the mood had been raised and suitably leveled, ensuring everyone would be smiling throughout payday weekend. And, with music of the quality seen that night, nobody could deny that all three bands were to thank for that feeling.
Money well spent!
